Yog (also known as Yoga) is a mental, physical and spiritual discipline or practice that has its origins in India. The day of 21st June was suggested by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address to the UN because it is the longest day of the year. The day also has special relevance in several different parts of the globe.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
This year, the theme of the observance of International Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.
